TORSION BARS - THE FACTS

Torsion bars are a straight, solid rod of heat treated steel. Coil and leaf springs are designed to resist forces which cause the to compress. A torsion bar resists the forces which cause the bar to twist!

The only way to increase torsion bar performance is to manufacture a thicker torsion bar.

Original equipment torsion bars are design to carry the original weight of the factory tire and wheel combination only. The adjustment is not intended as a load carrying compensator, but simply to level the vehicle at time of manufacture. The addition of heavy winch bumpers or oversize tire and wheel combinations, the standard tire and wheel weight is approximately 45 lbs. When a larger 31"- 32" installed, the new weight jumps to 70-80 pounds -- a 45% gain in unsprung weight! The only way to properly control the additional weight is to install larger diameter torsion bars, which are stronger and have been engineered to handle the additional loads. Simply "cranking up" the adjustment of the stock bars does not increase the strength of the bar, but puts the bar in an over-stressed, preloaded condition, and causes an extremely rough ride, rapid CV axle and boot wear, plus premature failure of the bar itself.s

The rate of a torsion bar is determined by the steel type, its length and thickness. The longetivy of the bar is governed by the qualiy of the steel, engineering and precision manufacturing.

NWOR 25mm torsion bars offer a 28% higher spring rate than the stock torision bars. The splined ends are rolled in rather than machined out , which contributes to superior design. All bars are pre-set at 117 degrees in the direction of use (bars are made left and right handed). NWOR pre-set torsion bars are ready to use and when installed will not exhibit sagging, bottoming out under hard use off-road and will carry heavy oversize tires with ease. The torsion bars, when installed with a moderate amount of pre-load, will raise the front of the Toyota 1-1/2" to 2"over stock. NWOR torsion bars offer a superior ride over stock "cranked up"bars, or other aftermarket brands.
